Interim Assessment Proficiency Rate Business Rules

Definition: Percent of students with scores at or above minimum proficiency level

Periodicity (time period): Periodic - calculates for a specific test period

Default Cut Point:

  • Proficiency Rate - Uses the level considered proficient for the assessment;
  • Percentile Score - Uses a recommended cut point of 50th percentile;
  • Percent Score - Uses the recommended cut point of 60%

Default Performance Levels:

Proficiency Rate - The number of levels and the default cut point will adapt to the conventions used in your assessment when returning Proficiency Rate. If your state has 4 levels and level 3 is considered proficient, then these are the default performance levels:

Label Criteria
teal Level 4 teal State Benchmark Level = 4
light orange Level 3 light orange State Benchmark Level = 3
dark orange Level 2 dark orange State Benchmark Level = 2
red Level 1 red State Benchmark Level = 1

Percentile Score - The number of levels and the default cut point for Percentile Score is based on quartiles, where the 3rd and 4th quartile (at or above the 50th percentile) is considered proficient.

Label Criteria
teal 75th Percentile and Above teal Scored in the 75th percentile and above
light orange 50th - 74th Percentile light orange Scored in the 50th - 74th percentile
dark orange 25th - 49th Percentile dark orange Scored in the 25th - 49th percentile
red < 25th Percentile red Scored in the < 25th percentile

Percent Score - The number of levels and the default cut point for Percent Score is based on meeting or exceeding a recommended score (60% or 70%). There are four performance levels defined for percent score by default.

Label Criteria
teal Standards Exceeded teal 80-100%
light orange Standards Met light orange 60-79%
dark orange Standards Nearly Met dark orange 40-59%
red Standards Not Met red 0-39%

Possible Configurations:

  • Admin User: None.
  • Schoolzilla support:
    • Additional filters to limit metrics to certain schools or student demographics may be supported.
    • Performance level cutoffs for metrics showing percentile score or percent score (see table below).

District and School Metric Calculation:

Interim Assessment Proficiency Rate = Number of students who are at/above proficiency benchmark
Number of students tested in the test period 1, 2, 3, 4

Notes

  1. Includes students who completed the interim assessment and had a valid score in the test period, including students who have exited.
  2. A school’s interim assessment metrics only include students’ assessment data from when they attended that school.
  3. If a student is dual/concurrently enrolled, his/her scores would contribute to the school where the scores were earned.
  4. The student records that are used to calculate the district metric include all assessments completed while the student was enrolled in the district. See the logic below.
    • The metric on District Profile/Our Schools uses a student's assessment records from any school in the district.
    • The metric on School Profile uses a student's assessments completed in that school (including students who are no longer enrolled, but were enrolled when they completed the assessment)
    • The metric on Our Students/Student Profile shows any assessments completed while the student was enrolled in the district, even if the student was enrolled in another school at the time.
    • If the student completed more than one assessment within the window, either the most recent score or the max score within that time period will be used (see table below).

Student Level Metrics: Varies by assessment - Proficiency level, percentile rank, or percent scores (see table below)

If the student completed more than one assessment within the window, either the most recent score or the max score within that time period will be used (see table below).
