Date and Time Restrictions Preference

If you want to limit when students can take Accelerated Reader quizzes, use this preference to choose the dates and times when quizzing is allowed. You can also choose whether to allow quizzing on Saturdays and Sundays.

How to get to this preference

To get to the Date and Time Restrictions page, follow these steps:

  1. On the Home page, select your name in the top right corner. Then, choose Edit Preferences from the menu that opens.
  2. You can also select Accelerated Reader Independent Reading on the Home page and then choose Preferences from the popup menu.

  3. Select Date and Time Restrictions under the School Preferences on the Preferences page.

How to set the preference

Who can do this with default user permissions?

District-level administrators, school-level administrators

District-level administrators can set the preference for all schools on your site. School-level administrators can set the preference for their schools. Other staff and teachers cannot set the preference unless they have been granted special permissions, but they can view the settings.

Your schools are listed. You can set the preferences for each of your schools, or you can choose settings to apply to all of your schools:

Choosing settings for each school

  1. If you want to restrict students to quizzing between certain dates at a school (such as the school year or a marking period), check the first box. Then, select the calendar field.
  2. In the calendar, select the start date first; notice that it will be filled in within the first field. Then, select the end date. (Select the arrows to the left and right of the two months shown to move back or forward in the calendar.) Once you have selected both dates, the time period between them will be highlighted on the calendar. If the dates are correct, select Apply.

  3. If you want to prevent quizzing on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays), check the second box.
  4. If you want to restrict the times when students can take reading quizzes, check the third box. Then, move the circle at each end of the range to set the starting and ending times when students can take quizzes. Once you have selected each circle (see the 4 PM circle in the example below), you can also use the left and right arrow keys on your keyboard to go backward and forward one minute to set the time more precisely.
  5. In the example below, students can quiz from 6:44 AM until 4:00 PM.

  6. If you want to allow teachers to override the restrictions with the monitor password for reading quizzes, check the last box. (This will also update the Monitor Password Override preference's setting for date and time restrictions.)
  7. Select Save Changes to save your settings. (Select < Back to go back to the Preferences page.)

Choosing the same settings for all of your schools

  1. Select Set All above the table.
  2. In the popup window, choose the settings as described above; then, select Apply to All. (You still need to save your changes.)
  3. Select Save Changes to save your settings. (Select < Back to go back to the Preferences page.)
