On the Set a Goal page, you can set reading and math Star goals for the selected students.

How to Get to the Set a Goal Page

If you aren't already on the Set a Goal page, on the Home page, select Star Reading, Star Early Literacy, or Star Math; then, select Manage Goals & Benchmarks.

Then, on the Goals & Benchmarks page, select Set a Goal.

How to Set a Goal

Who can do this with default user permissions?

District-level administrators, school-level administrators, teachers

District-level administrators can set goals for all classes and students at all schools. School-level administrators can set goals for all classes and students at their schools. Teachers can set goals for their classes and students. Other staff cannot view or set goals unless they have been granted more permissions.

Follow these steps:

  1. At the top of the Set a Goal page, click the Select link or the Select button to the right. (If a class is already selected, you can select the Change Selection button to choose a different one.)
  2. In the window that opens, choose the school in the first column if necessary. Then, choose a class in the second column. (You can search the items in a column by clicking within that column and then typing Ctrl+F or control-F on the keyboard.) In the third column, first choose whether to select all students in the class or some (Select Students). If you choose "Select Students," check the students whose goals you want to set. When you're finished, select Apply.
  3. You can only set Star goals for classes that have at least one of the following products assigned: Star Early Literacy, Star Math, and/or Star Reading.

To set reading practice goals for the quizzes that students take in Accelerated Reader, see Accelerated Reader Goals (Record Book). To set reading certification goals, see Accelerated Reader Certifications (Record Book).

  4. Next, after "Type of goal," use the first drop-down list to choose whether to set a reading goal or a math goal.
  5. Use the second drop-down list to choose the type of goal that you want to set.
  6. These types of goals are available:

    • Percentile Rank (Reading and Math): For reading, Percentile Rank goals can include Star Reading tests and/or Star Early Literacy tests. For math, only Star Math tests are included (you can select Algebra and Geometry tests as well as Enterprise and Progress Monitoring). You will see the students' latest Percentile Ranks and the goal.
    • Scaled Score (Reading and Math, Unified and Enterprise Scales): For reading, Scaled Score goals can include Star Reading tests and/or Star Early Literacy tests. If you choose the Unified Scale goal, one goal can be set for both Star Reading and Star Early Literacy; if you choose Enterprise Scale goals, the Star Reading and Star Early Literacy goals are separate. For math, Star Math tests are used for Scaled Score goals. You can set goals for the Unified or Enterprise Scale; you can also select Algebra and Geometry tests as well as Enterprise and Progress Monitoring. As you view goal progress, you will see the students' latest Scaled Scores and the goal.
    • If only one Scaled Score goal is available for reading and one for math, these goals are on the Unified scale.

    • Star Math, Star Early Literacy, or Star Reading SGP: For reading, you can set a Student Growth Percentile goal for either Star Early Literacy or Star Reading. For math, you can set a Student Growth Percentile goal for Star Math. You will see the students' current Student Growth Percentile.
