Select the type of data you will be importing from the Upload type menu
.
- Select Assignment Data to upload open educational resource (OER) data.
- Select State Summative Test Data to upload data from a state summative test. When you make this choice, a second drop-down list will appear (see the next step).
Note: Teachers will not see the Upload type drop-down list and should skip to the next step. (Teachers can only upload OER data, so there is no need to choose a template.)

-
In the Download Template section of the page:
- Teachers or district level administrators/school level administrators who selected Assignment Data in the prior step: Select Download
to download the OER template.
- District level administrators/school level administrators who selected State Summative Test Data in the prior step: Use the drop-down list to the left of the Download link and choose which template you download (Smarter Balanced, PARCC, or ACT Aspire). Then select Download
to download the template.
The templates are Microsoft® Excel .xlsx workbooks. Each has two sheets: one is the blank template for you to fill in, and the other describes the expected format of the data you will be entering.
-
Open the template and fill in the assignment data.
-
Save the completed template on your computer (give it a unique file name so it will be easier to identify).
-
Add the completed template to the uploading queue, either by dragging it to the Upload Template section of the window
, or selecting the upload from your computer link in that section, navigating to the location of your saved file on your computer, selecting the file, and then selecting Open.
You can upload multiple templates at the same time. To remove a template from the upload queue, select Cancel on the right side of the row for that template
.

At least one skill/standard has to be associated with the student assignment you are importing. Select a subject
, and then select the Skills field
to open a hierarchy of columns that you can use to "tag" the student assignment with a grade, domain family, domain, and standard. You can make multiple selections in each column, but at least one standard has to be used as a tag.
You can search the items in a column by clicking within that column and then typing Ctrl+F or control-F on the keyboard.
When you are finished selecting skills/standards to be used as tags for the import, select Done beneath the columns.
-
Select Import
to start the import. You will see a message advising you that the import has begun and how you can check on the status of the import. Select OK
.

-
Once the import is complete, you will see a confirmation on the Renaissance Home page, and it will also appear in the Job History list at the bottom of the page
. Details of past imports are listed here, including the date of the import, whether it was successful or not, the number of items that were imported, and file links
(Import File opens the file imported, Error Log opens the error log that is automatically created if there is a problem during the import).
By default, only the 5 most recent imports are shown. Use the Show drop-down list
to view 10, 20, 50, or 100 imports instead.
-
Select Done at the top of the screen
when you are done importing student assignment data.
