Follow the steps below to generate exercises in class Assignment Books. An exercise is a type of practice assignment meant primarily for in-class use as a way to support and reinforce objectives covered in a daily lesson. Exercises can also be used to provide more directed practice for specific objectives.
Who can do this with default capabilities?
District Administrators, School Administrators, Teachers
On the Home page, select Other Math & Reading Apps. On the next page, select the green Accelerated Math tile (shown below); then, select Assignment Book.
The Assignment Book lists the students who are in one class. The class name is shown above the list of students. If you have access to more than one Accelerated Math school, use the School drop-down list to choose the school for which you want to view a class Assignment Book. If you have more than one class, and you want to select a different class, click the Class drop-down list and select the class name. If you want to generate exercises for a specific group, select that group from the Group drop-down list.
The Renaissance Place Print Plug-in is only necessary if you are generating paper (not online) assignments and you are printing the assignments directly instead of previewing them first. If you need the plug-in, click the link and download and install the Renaissance Place Print Plug-in before you continue. Then, go back to the class Assignment Book.
Check the box next to each student who needs an exercise. If you want to generate exercises for all students in the class, you don't need to select the students before going on to the next step.
Click Generate Exercise on the left side of the page.
On the next page, click the Assignment Format drop-down list and choose whether the assignment should be online or paper.
For paper assignments only, click the Answer Format drop-down list and choose assisted-response problems or free-response problems.
Click in the Problems per objective field and enter the number of problems you want to include for each objective you selected. The number may affect how quickly students can master objectives based on the mastery criteria.
If you selected more than one student, click the Problem Generation drop-down list and choose whether students should get identical assignments or individual (unique) ones.
If you chose identical assignments with free-response problems (paper assignments only), click the Free-Response Answer Key drop-down list and choose whether to generate just one answer key for all students or one for each student.
Now, check the box for each objective that you want to include on the exercise.
If you selected more than one student, check the boxes that are at the intersection of the objective columns and the student rows. If you want to select the same objective for all students, click in the box next to the objective number at the top of the column. (To see the objective description and library, position your mouse over the objective number. You can also scroll through the list of objective descriptions.)
Click . Click it again to hide the standards. Objectives in bold text are related to your standards.
Click next to an objective description to see sample problems for that objective. If the icon is available, click it to see a worked example, which shows you the steps required to solve a sample problem and the answer.
Notice that this page uses symbols to show you the status of each student's work on each objective. To see the symbol name, position your mouse over the symbol or click Legend in the upper right corner of the page.
Objectives marked with or with a shaded corner () are core objectives.
Note: If you have reached your student capacity limit for Accelerated Math, this page will notify you and will show you which students cannot receive assignments.
Online assignments will be generated immediately. You will return to the Assignment Book. You can view a student's online assignments when you click the student's name and go to the Student Detail page.
By default, the assignments will print directly to your default printer. Click Done when printing is complete. (Note: You need the Renaissance Place Print Plug-in to print directly to your computer. If you don't have the plug-in installed, the program will notify you that you need to install the plug-in and then reprint the assignment. Click the link provided to go to the page where you can download the plug-in; click here to for step-by-step instructions.)
If you have chosen to preview assignments using the Paper Assignments preference, the assignment(s) will open in your PDF reader in the browser window or a separate window, and you can print the assignments.
Note: If you want to print assignments double-sided, and your printer is capable of duplex printing, use the Paper Assignments preference to enable duplex printing.
